ANOFIU

I chanced on mystery
A gorgeous black skinny girl
Her hair is blonde
Her face is pretty
With a lot on her mind
She does the unthinkable
Opens up to a stranger

Mysteries need unravelling
But this one is an experience
She’s cold at summer
And warm at winter
A tad too wild
Needs a little bit of taming
One day we will get there

KEVIN

Dear Zeus,

She called me. Said a lot of nice things about you. She also told me how much she misses you. But I told her this

He found a lover in you
But you saw just another game
He was no fool
But you brought him close
He was a bear, and you tamed him

You stood him up every now and then
Like it was your stock of trade
He kept calling and hoping
Just so you could see beneath his beautiful
But your pride was more than the pride
You left your cub unattended

Your name never left his lips
But you’d die before they saw you with him
He would have followed you to the edge of the atlas
I know, for it was you or nothing
But you wouldn’t let him in
You kept him in the dark

I had a dream
And he was there for you
He wanted to take your place
He wanted to die in your stead
He wanted to see you live
All he needed was to spare him a glance

You denied him flowers
When he had sunshine
Why plant roses
Now that the sun will shine no more
The dead don’t need your love

Let him be in peace
For he found a lover in the earth
And they are one now
Away from your prying eyes
Safe from your cold heart

Your brother,
Demi-God.

MISCHIEVOUS

Take my hand; Let us go
To a land; Far away
Don’t look back; I’ve got you
Don’t forget; I’m with you

Make a choice; I’ve made mine
Don’t be scared; I am strong
Open it up; See your fate
No matter what; Won’t let you down

Let’s play a game; Just us two
Drop your phone; I’m enough
Now you’re smiling; I told you so
Besides me; There’s no one else

Let’s run in rain; Get us wet
Our skins are tough, Impermeable
Let thunder strike; I’ll hold it there
Cos with you; Some strength I find

Pick a fight; I’ve got fists
Take off your heels; We might run
If you can’t run; I’ll take a punch
One, two, or three; I sure can stand

Let’s shoot at stars; Shooting stars
And then what next; We land on Mars
Let’s hoist our flag; Your name and mine
And walk to earth; Like gods on earth

Let’s plan a trip; Mama won’t know
Let’s get the cash; From Dada’s purse
Let’s buy some wood; The land is cold
And make some fire; By our side

Give me a taste; Of your lips
It tastes as good; Your lips are pursed
I need a nap; Your bosom free?
Don’t wake me up; A little more

Let’s take a snap; Then a shot
Get ourselves high; Post our bills
We grab the mic; Sing some thrash
The crowd boos us; We hear just cheers

Let’s go to church; Confess our sins
Don’t leave the rings; We wed tonight
We consummate; The preacher’s late
We do not care; It’s you and me

VANITY

Why a straight face?
It’s alright to be gay
Life isn’t just short
We forget It’s a bliss
Get the hell up and dance

It may mean nothing to you
But too much of everything is bad
So a lil bit of love, a lil bit of lust
A lil bit of smoke, a lil bit of hooch
Less of stupidity, after you’re 23

Never give what you won’t get
Make opportunities count
A blow for a good home run
A first base for a second base
Never for the money though

Papa says it’s a sin
What kind of sin is it then?
Damn, it tastes so sweet
Well,  something must kill a man
And it damn won’t be a man

Better late than never
But never late is better
So never keep her waiting
Be a man, stay for long
Else don’t even come

What is it that he said?
“Controlled usage can’t be fatal
Abstinence ain’t immortality”
So maybe take a sip or two
Puff a Lil,  and don’t enter anyhow
But make sure to end at the altar

POSEIDON

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
How long before you reveal your seat
You sit on rocks far beneath the sea
And you take yachts for your meat

You have in possession the world’s biggest ships
The titanic you will not reveal
You take its cabins for your chips
And its secrets you conceal

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
You give us fishes we adore
But your sharks we abhor
Nevertheless you sympathize with us with your breeze

Your breeze relaxes our soul
But your tsunami is an eyesore
We shiver when you roar
But we love your smooth sail

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
You give us salt to garnish our soups
But your water don’t quench our thirst
Restricting us to whisky when we are with you
Nevertheless we love to walk at your beach
But we never like your breach
Your heart is far beyond our reach
But your color is so rich

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
I hate you for one thing and you know
You brought them here to rule and take
And they left to build and reign

You bring us back to where we belong
Whenever we die in your midst
Though our eyes never come along
For our bodies, we thank you

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
We kill your sons and your daughters we defile
But you watch us with open eyes
Hoping to see some good in mankind

I heard your face resides in the Bermuda
So fierce we scarce can behold
But I hope to me it may be revealed
And say how beautiful you are to me

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
We never want to make you cry
Because we heard your tears cause flood
And I don’t want to lose her

We heard you never sleep
And that your eyes never close
I envy the bride over whom you watch
Though I doubt if you have one

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
Abduct me for just a second
Tell me of all the secrets you know
Of love, of care and of hope

Take me to the Titanic
The ship in which love was redefined
To learn how to love her more
And die in her stead

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
I heard Odyssey troubled you a lot
Is it true? Let me know
Don’t tell me you are that weak

I heard a man walked on you
Can you tell me of him? I pray thee
I wish I had met him
Never mind because his blood still saves

Poseidon, ruler of the sea
I heard your monster attacked Troy
You shouldn’t have done that for Helen’s sake
Achilles died and I hope you know

GOING INCOGNITO

So I stood to see if the light was still bright
And I fell only to see the night unravelled
In my quest for peace I stumbled and bled
And my blood not red I yelled for the alien
My clothes tattered, I walked through the beautiful gate
And before I looked back my gait became an infection
The senses of the modest yearn to decipher the paradigm
But the senseless are lost in the woods
Yes, that is life and only few can comprehend

In the multitude of noises I chanced upon silence
With loads of quietness and of serene countenance
I wondered and starred, hungered and watered
Hoping to visualize the pattern of the thoughts of man
To discern the storm from the breeze, the goat from the sheep
The storm scares a lot, the goat? A real nuisance
So I realized that to make or mar are two sides of a coin
And it is best done serene.

I saw myself but it was not in the passing river
I reasoned and figured out it was a dream
I compared my life and I loved the one I had in sleep
Because in there I could wake up from my fears and mistakes
And afford to get all the pleasures I have been denied
But then the cock’s crow became my nemesis
Waking me up from my delight, yet saved me my job
The distasteful things are not always destructive
And it’s one of the virtues my dreams taught me

At the toss of a coin I lost to man filled with emptiness
Beneath the dungeons of darkness I sat to reminisce
Of chances and opportunities and how they present
But there was no harmony in the pattern
So it is enough for the studious to fail and the lazy excel
But then will it last? And if yes for how long?
So I stood and run to my niche
For there I find peace and warmth and love

I always thought of being the 21st century oldest
But then death scared me the moment after the thought
So I gazed at the sun hoping to spot the black hole
To see the ages of the many immortalized
Then I saw Jesus, and Alexander the Great, and Mohammed
So I realized the vanity of ages if one died not emptied
The eclipse ended my hallucinations
And the next thing I knew, stretching on a bench

My eyes could barely close, I sat in despair
Fear gripped me and shivers went down my spine
I beheld the bold and beautiful, the coward and ugly
To my utter dismay they all felt some sense of pride
Then I sought to discern what lies within the skull
The bold were afraid, the beautiful were never contempt
The ugly wanted to be noticed, the coward, hiding in the crowd
So I wondered their make up and who deserves what
But the skull was impermeable and the hairs were bushy and glistering

The night was quiet, the day was loud
So I chose the night seeking to avoid the chaos
But they said the night was dark and dark was evil
So I looked beyond to see the night
And I saw sleep taking away worries
I heard the wind singing melodiously
I saw the laborer snoring his tiredness away
And the rich embracing his wife and children after a tough day
So I chose evil because of darkness, and darkness because of night
The night because of the laborer and sleep and the wind and the rich
Because the day comes bright but chaotic
It was lively but full of dust

IT GETS BETTER

When the tortoise betters your steps
And the desert flows than your pipes
When the tares overgrow your corn
And your corn, a feed for the rats
Just take a hit at your chest
And say it gets better

When the sun dims your day
And the moon over shines your sleep
When the stars neglect your skies
And the shooting ones take a still
Just take a hit at your chest
And say it gets better

When your tears overlook your plight
And your joy saddens the multitude
When your presence brings the game to an end
And you feel like just letting go
Just take a hit at your chest
And say it gets better

And when it gets better
Take a look back at all those years
And bless them all that cursed you
Embrace all that neglected you
Help lift those that prayed your fall
And never regret what befell you.

THE PILGRIM’S PRAYER

For my end I pray
That it supersedes my beginning
That when the doldrums of death
Within me echoes loud,
My place I shall find
Far beyond the clouds

For souls I preach
That the master’s last wish
I may not defy
My soul, rest not
Till thou pull the lot
From the depth of destruction

For heaven I wait
Patiently for the trumpet sound
My life I will watch
My faith I will pray
Never relenting, always progressing
Till my tears no more I find.

MY MOTHER IS BLACK

Alas a child is born
To a woman not fair
She labors to the core
And hallucinates in the deep
To bring forth a child unknown
A great battle won

Alas a cry is heard
By a woman not fair
The pains of the heart flee
Giving rise to joy incomparable
A life she gives
To a baby so innocent

Behold, the love of a mother
A mother not fair
She cares for her own
And more for the strange one
She loves to love
And more, to be loved

Hail the womb of a mother
With stories so great to tell
Early she wakes
And late she sleeps
Nothing, but to care for the household
Thus my mother and she is not fair
She is black
