Memories

memories lived here
a man, a wife, and three kids
a man with a broken silver cord
an inconsolable wife
and a triad of confused kids

memories lived here
a son, a mother
a son who shall not smile again
a mother weeping for her son

memories lived here
a son with so much hope
even when darkness was nigh
he would never let go

memories lived here
they’re supposed to bring joy
but these are tears
and I don’t know how to cry
